Buhari's Health Status Will Not Affect Mobilization - NYSC

Brigadier-General Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General of the National youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday, stated that an honest disclosure of health status by prospective corps members will not serve as a barrier to mobilisation.

Kazaure, who was represented by the Director of corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mrs. Victoria Okakwu, disclosed this in Lagos during a visit to the Iyana Ipaja temporary Orientation Camp.

He charged corps members to endeavour to declare their health status at the point of registration of registration, saying that revelation, rather than serve as a barrier to participation in the national service, would only provide necessary assistance and help for the corps members.

“We know that some of you have health issues. If you have any health issue please don’t hide it. There is speculation that when you declare your status NYSC will not mobilise you; it is a big lie. If you declare your health status it makes it better for us because we will ensure that you are deployed to a place close to your doctors and family where you will get easy access to routine treatment.

“That is the position of NYSC on health matters. If you are asthmatic, if it blood related issue say it loud, don’t lie as this will not help anyone,” the DG added.

The NYSC DG, however, advised the corps members to stay in their places of primary assignments, avoid unnecessary traveling and work hard to benefit from the several awards as reward for outstanding corps members.

Earlier, his host, the Lagos State Coordinator, Prince Mohammed Momoh, informed the representative of the DG that the 2, 866 corps members deployed to the state for the second stream comprise of 551 males and 2, 305 females.

He expressed appreciation to all collaborating agencies; the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defence, and the medical team of consultants from the Federal Medical Centre, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Orthopedic and Psychiatric Hospitals as they provided medical attention to corps members, military and paramilitary personnel as well as camp officials.

Momoh disclosed that the camp had; “27 doctors, 11 nurses, 21 pharmacists, 5 physiotherapists and 5 medical laboratory technologists. The medical team has attended to 682 patients while malaria is the common ailment, body pains upper and lower respiratory infections in that order”.

Highlight of the visit was presentation of cash rewards to the cultural troop, Karate group, Quarter Guard, and the camp band, just as the DG also announced a donation of a cow for the camp fire night celebration to mark the end of the camping exercise on Monday February 13, 2017.
