Utomi, CSO To Engage FG, El-Rufai On Southern Kaduna Killings

Prof Pat Utomi and some other eminent Nigerians under the aegis of civil society network in Nigeria, the Civil Society Conflicts Intervention Team, have initiated an all inclusive mechanism aimed at ending the lingering Southern Kaduna bloodletting and violence.

The group is jointly led by Prof Pat Utomi of the Nigeria Political Summit Group (NPSG) and Prof Mallam Jibo Ibrahim of the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).

A statement signed by the Head of the team’s publicity, Mallam Naseer Kura, on Sunday in Abuja, stated that the team, which was inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja is set to interface with the Nigerian Presidency, Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State, the three senators from Kaduna, the four peace initiatives working on the Southern Kaduna crisis as well as eminent leaders of thought from the Southern Kaduna region among many others.

Some notable members of the team at the Thursday technical parley of the group includes Prof Pat Utomi, who chaired the meeting, Mrs Charity Shekari, Prof Kole Shettima, Ms Bolanle Onagoruwa, Wakili Kadima, Mrs. Janet Adeyemi, Mr Bash Olasupo and the secretary of the team, veteran Olawale Okunniyi among others.

The statement called for collaboration on the part of all stakeholders to ensure that normalcy returns to the Southern Kaduna region and peace reigns.

“What is happening today in Southern Kaduna and other parts of Nigeria is quite heart rendering and worrisome. It requires a collaborative effort of all stakeholders to bring to normalcy as expressed by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his last visit to the Niger Delta.

“Thus, we wish to call on all stakeholders and all concerned parties in the Southern Kaduna crisis to sheathe their swords and embrace dialogue in the interest of the peace and progress of the state,” Mallam Kura charged.
