Dr. Junaid Mohammed, second republic lawmaker has stated that the presidency led by President Muhammadu Buhari lacks understanding of democracy.
The former lawmaker who spoke to Independent was reacting to a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the President on Media that Mohammed is suffering from pathological cynicism for criticising Buhari’s administration.
Mohammed stressed that democracy is about the wellbeing of the people and once any government cannot make the lives of the people better, it has failed.
He said, “The country under President Buhari has not fared well since May 2015 when he was sworn in. As far as I am concerned, the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari, as a disaster.
“I plead with Nigerians those who are rational to ask themselves from May 29, 2015 till date whether the lives of Nigerians are better or not”.
The Kano State born politician described Buhari as a mediocre whose tenure since May 29 to date has not been able to give the country the needed dividends of democracy as promised.
Mohammed disclosed that the country is facing crisis in three important areas which is an indication that things are not working in the country.
“No country can face crisis in security, economy and politics as we are facing today and would be able to survive.”
He urged the government to concentrate on how to bring the country out of the present economic downturn instead of blaming the former administration for the present economic challenges.
“I am disturbed at the rate which the present administration has spent efforts and resources blaming the past administration instead of coming with the blueprint on how it could redeem the country from economic woes.”
