The police have
foiled an attempt by suspected kidnappers to abduct Femi Otedola, the
billionaire oil magnate.
Don Awunah, force
public relations officer in a statement issued Wednesday said that the IGP’s
Intelligence Response Team (IRT) accomplished this task when it arrested a
three-man notorious kidnap gang, June 23, 2016.
According to
Awunah, a deputy commissioner of police, the arrest was achieved through
coordinated intelligence gathering and deployment of technical investigative
tools that spanned several weeks.
He named the
suspects as: Ikechukwu Daniel, (28) from Imo State,
Adeyemi Kayode
(29), a serving operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,
(NSCDC) from Ibadan and Ayodele Temitayo.
The police image
maker further disclosed that the suspects made confessional statements
revealing that they had successfully carried out several high profile
kidnappings, while two AK47 rifles loaded with live ammunition were recovered
from them.
