I Am Not Surprised By Chelsea's Struggles, Admits Conte

The Blues boss believes that his side were always liable to go through a rough patch following a change in management on the back of a disappointing 2015-16 campaign

Antonio Conte has spoken of his lack of surprise for Chelsea’s recent struggles in the Premier League after their recent 3-0 defeat against Arsenal made it three games without a win.

The Blues previously lost 2-1 at the hands of Liverpool at Stamford Bridge after they also dropped points against Swansea City in a 2-2 draw, despite taking an early 1-0 lead.

But the 47-year-old says he knew he was joining a club with problems to solve after their disappointing 10th-placed league finish last season.

“I am not surprised [about the results] because, usually, when you change manager it means you have a problem,” he told a press conference ahead of his side's trip to Hull City on Saturday.

"When you arrive in a place for you to solve the problems then you know you must face this situation.

"Sometimes you can be happy to solve it very quickly, sometimes you need to have times to solve this situation. It is important to understand how many problems you have to sort, but never in my life, my story tells that I have never I found an easy situation.”

Many believe that the root of Chelsea's problems is their defence as they have conceded two or more goals in their last four games in all competitions.

A portion of Chelsea fans booed off their side after they went in 2-0 down to Liverpool at half-time, but Conte admits that he and his players hold the same expectations as the demanding fan base.

“The expectation is to improve compared to last season,” he added. “The expectation comes from me. I have that expectation, not only the club or the fans because I decided to be the manager of a great team like Chelsea.

“Within myself I have the expectation, but also I know in my experience as a footballer and as a manager is to have passions to continue to work very hard to find the right way to go into the situation and to solve the situation.

“it won’t be easy. It is normal, but I am comfortable because I have a group of players that want to work and have the right spirit.”
